Steel is a character created by Louise Simonson, Dennis Janke and Jon Bogdanove. A brilliant scientist and an expert in hand to hand combat, he was inspired by Superman's example to build a suit of powered armor so he too could become a superhero. The suit gives him superhuman strength, superhuman speed, invulnerability and the ability to fly, and comes equipped with repulsor beams. With this armor and a big hammer, he helps Superman fight crime and the forces of evil in Metropolis.
